Remote Sensing

In order to place the excavations at West Heslerton into a wider landscape context,  the Landscape Research Centre has applied a number of remote sensing techniques to the surrounding area. These include airborne techniques, such as multi-spectral imagery, LiDAR and aerial photography, and ground-based geophysical methods, including magnetometry, resistivity and ground penetrating radar.

Using this diverse range of instruments has allowed us to build up a comprehensive picture of the underlying archaeological landscape, which in turn helps us to understand how the excavated sites are a part of a much wider, interlinked environment.
