A number of different platforms can be used to gather airborne remote sensing data, ranging from kites and remote controlled model aircraft to conventional fixed wing aeroplanes and even satellites orbiting the Earth. The airborne data used by the LRC has come primarily from fixed wing aircraft, in the form of both oblique and vertical aerial photography, LiDAR and multi-spectral imagery.
